A Christmas Present to the World that I Can Do Without
I received a comment today from the spokesperson for the Draft Sarah Palin for President 2012 website, which caused me to take a second look at it since my post about it yesterday. In my search to know why she is so appealing to some, I noticed the following comment from Ruthie Kelly:
A beacon is flickering. President-elect Barack Obama and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi have announced the first order of business for the Democratic-controlled White House and Congress is to fund health care for all children. On the surface it sounds OK, except both boast they are late-term abortion proponents, who want a seamless, socialist society. Not good. In two years, if the USA is still the USA and private freedom voting is allowed, that rhetoric can be nullified. There is a beacon of greatness flickering and that is Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK). ***In time, Gov. Palin’s greatness will be the USA’s finest light and Alaska’s untapped natural resources are multifaceted. It’s a Christmas present to the world.
A Christmas present to the world? She is not exactly what I want. But “a flickering beacon of greatness”? What? Are we talking about the same person? Why her? What is it about her? From what I can see, she doesn’t have much to say unless someone writes it for her. She can’t answer questions because she is either trying to be something that she is not, and hence the questions are difficult and the answers are, at best, strained, or she just doesn’t have any answers. What is it that I don’t see?
But another comment on that website reveals something really disturbing. Adam Graham claims that a recent Rasmussen poll shows that Sarah Palin leads in a Republican Primary Trial heat by a 64-13% margin and has a 91% favorable rating among Republicans and a 65% very favorable rating. Adam stated, ”…at this moment, she is the most popular Republican in America. Why?” Ok, I am not the only one wondering about the beacon.
I did a little looking and came across a Gallup poll with similar indications. Admittedly, I find this really alarming. In a poll conducted from November 5-16, 67% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents want to see Palin run for President in 2012.
“Seventy-three percent of Republicans who describe their political views as “conservative” would like to see Palin run in 2012, significantly more than any other candidate. Liberal and moderate Republicans, in turn, are somewhat cool to a 2012 Palin bid. This group tends to favor Romney over any of the other potential candidates.”
The results for all candidates are listed below.

The data is there. She does not seem to appeal to fringe groups only. It is possible for her to make a run for the presidency. There have been very unlikely candidates before. George W. Bush and Ronald reagan were unlikely examples and, like her, they were governors before they ran. I never thought George W. Bush could be elected. He was just as inarticulate and did not not come off very well either.
She is already a featured speaker at CPAC in february and has 2-3 years to polish up her delivery and image. The “Our Country” PAC and this draft Palin website are not too off base on at least one thing. Those who are concerned that this woman never get near any high political office should be concerned, not smarmy. Her followers equate her with Ronald Reagan, who they hold in high esteem. They are looking for a “uniter” who can take their guns, God, Glory and no abortion message all the way to the White House. All of us who are concerned about her ever gaining office had best not get too complacent.
Based upon her McCarthyistic campaign appearances, I do not think I could tolerate life with her as a President and am not willing to chance it. I truly believe in the separation of church and state and want it to remain that way. The thought of her witch-hunting crazy Pentecostal minister providing guidance to her about governing or affairs of state boggles my mind.
During the primaries, I remember clearly Hillary Clinton with her head in her hands saying, “I just don’t want the country to take a step back.” Either do I. Sarah Palin is a Christmas present that I want to return early thank you. She’s just not a good fit.

But in that poll, you are talking to people that are still willing to identify themselves as Republicans. The whole party is going down the tubes. Breathe easy.
Read on.

Why does Governor Palin appeal to so many of us? Well, lets see, first off, she’s brilliant!
Second, she’s an actual conservative. Every time the Republican party runs a true conservative, they mop the floor with democrats.
Governor Palin has an incredible record of fiscal responsibility. She has managed the state of Alaska very well.
Governor Palin has a record of looking for and ending corruption in government. She started as Mayor of Wasilla, and has carried it throughout her career.
As the head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, the agency that runs the oil industry up there, Governor Palin not only threw out corrupt employees, she cleaned up the entire process.
She even took on the leaders of her own party, forced them to resign, and lived to tell about it!
Obviously, Governor Palin is a real energy hawk, and knows that we need to become energy independent.
Governor Palin is also keenly aware of national security issues. The Governor is Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska National Guard, the ONLY National Guard that is on permanent deployment. The troops under her command man the Alaska Air Defense. They are our first line of defense should Russia, North Korea, or China try something.
As a consequence, Governor Palin carries a high national security clearance, higher than either Obama or Biden would have ever gotten without this election, and receives regular national security briefings.
Governor Palin has strong moral values, something our nation sorely needs.
This is why she appeals to so many Americans.

Gary, what planet are you on? and where do you get your “information”? And how long have you been masturbating to the image in your mind of Palin?

Gary, I appreciate your answer to my question. I do not agree with you, but I do appreciate your thoughtful response.
On another note, I publish all comments because I do not believe in censoring, but I would ask all who comment to be respectful of others.
The opinions of girldujour are not those of the author.
