Is Sarah Palin Playing to the Base?
On every right wingnut website, they love to rant about the “mainstream media.” So, it occurred to me while I was in Taiwan, maybe Sarah Plain is playing to the base. fanning the flames of paranoia and giving them a cause celebre because she has been so unfairly treated by the media and “liberal bloggers.”
I was surprised to see an article on that at CNN. While she claims to be trying to get her good name back, is that really what she is doing? The article suggests that
…some political observers suggest that Palin’s ongoing — and predominantly adversarial — relationship with the national media is all part of a savvy effort to retain her popularity with the legions of rank-and-file conservatives who stood so strongly behind her during the campaign.
Should Palin eye a presidential bid herself in 2012, continued loyalty from grass-roots Republicans will be crucial in determining whether she is the early favorite in a race sure to feature a crowded field of high-profile GOP contenders.
“All of that media bashing plays to the base,” said David Brody, a senior national correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network. “And at least within the Republican primary, that works well.”
It makes sense. If she wants to keep her base fired up, she needs to keep stoking the fire. During the 2008 election, that is about the only thing that she showed that she was good at — being divisive. ”If Palin wants to run for the Republican nomination in 2012, she has an issue that could rally conservatives: her treatment by the media.”
What Palin does not seem to see that her complaints do relatively nothing for people outside that narrow base who need to see a lot more from a candidate than her cries of foul by the MSM, as the right wingnuts say.
So, good luck Sarah. With your track record I just don’t see that mass appeal in less than 4 years and it’ll never happen if we bloggers have anything to say about it, and I think we will.

My only hope is that she doesn’t go away. I know, I know, that sounds sick, but she’s a loon and the more she talks the more material she gives us.
And the lesser the chances that the GOP will ever be able to be coherent enough to put up a decent ticket in 2012.

No not sick at all. I agree. I think she may appeal to the base, but as for the rest of us. Not for us! All that gab from her will, hopefully, just keep showing her for who she really is.

Also too…….
Palin´s moonie base provides her with such a cushy safe haven that things will never change. Sarah doesn´t need to change, or improve or grow in ANY way, she is JUST PERFECT in their eyes. So, it will erode eventually. It will hit the fan, what a rude awakening THAT will be!
Keep up the mediocre work, Sarah, you´re doing just fine!

Moonie base. That’s about it. You’re right. They are just completely blind about her. Thanks Deo.
