Republican FAIL: Poll Shows Americans Agree with Obama’s Policies
President Obama and the First Lady
A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll demonstrates that despite the right wingnuttery and complete jackassery of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, et al., their false claims of “socialism” and ”fascism” aren’t working. Not even the teabagging and fear mongering agenda seems to be working. Ah, the GOPosaurs are really looking back to the good old days when an ad displaying a mushroom cloud could be used against the Democrats to beat the American public into believing that they really do need to give all of their disposable income to the rich and fund holy wars against the infidels.
Now along comes President Obama and his quaint concept of healing our dividied nation and to actually get the government to work for the people again (instead of the other way). 63% in this poll “think the policies proposed by the president would push the nation in the right direction, with 35 percent saying those policies would send the country in the wrong direction.” As for the Republicans, the Americans polled feel that the GOP would move us in the WRONG direction. ”…the poll suggests that Americans don’t feel the same way about the Republicans’ policies. Thirty-nine percent of those questioned say that the policies of GOP congressional leaders would move the country in the right direction, with a slight majority, 53 percent, saying Republican proposals would move the nation in the wrong direction.” There’s more:
“The poll indicates that some of Obama’s popularity is rubbing off on congressional Democrats,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Even though [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi has a low approval rating and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid is facing some low numbers in polls taken in his home state, 57 percent think that the policies of the Democratic leaders in Congress would move the country in the right direction. That’s not good news for the GOP.”
Four months into Obama’s presidency, the country remains in a recession, but the poll indicates that Americans aren’t blaming the new president or his party for the country’s economic problems. Fifty-three percent of those surveyed say the Republicans are to blame, with only one in five saying the Democrats are more responsible for the country’s economic conditions.
So much for the Faux News psychotainers who have hyped President Obama as nothing short of the 666 beast and his presidency as the harbinger of the “end of days.” IT IS NOT WORKING! The old white dudes in charge of the GOP just don’t get that. The more shrill and hysterical they become, i.e., Nancy Pelosi must step down based on a flawed CIA memo claiming that she knew about torture when that memo does not factually make sense and has been controverted by a number of people. You know it’s bad when a former speaker who was charged with serious ethics violations is railing against Nancy Pelosi for that. Consider this from the Washington Post dated January 22, 1997:
The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House’s 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.
The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday’s vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.
“Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House,” said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). “If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment.”
So, this “Newt”character has a heck of a lot of chutzpah to be on television talking about alleged wrongdoing. Who is he to cast aspersions on anyone’s character. The man was a disgrace and he still is. His specialty is character assassination. Hounding Bill Clinton for having an extra-marital affair all while he was doing the very same thing with a young woman with whom he worked spells HYPOCRITE to me.
Is it any wonder then why Americans see President Obama as a breath of fresh air? Someone who wants to bring peace and focus on what we can agree on rather than fanning the flames of all of the issues that have divided us for years. America has grown tired of people telling us how to behave and what is American and what is not American.
Americans want a President who is actually trying to DO something to make the country work better and to relieve the economic difficulties of the middle class and that includes health care , which should never, ever be a luxury in a country as great and rich as ours.
It’s OUR time now.

I’m sickened by the attention Cheney’s getting–from the media’s culpability in apparently granting equal credence to Barack’s speeches, to the same “reporters” interviewing Cheney’s DAUGHTER, to CNN’s recent poll saying Cheney’s approval rating is spiking upward. Little mention of the difference between the two in terms of approval, integrity and courage.
Few talk about how unseemly is is for an outgoing, unpopular–some would say castigated– second banana to publicly tar and feather a sitting president, his former boss’s successor, at a time when he should be content nursing mint juleps on the veranda listening for the reassuring pulse of his pacemaker.
Few, if any comment on how he apparently miraculously rose from the dead after nearly a decade of dodging them to suddenly become their prime “get”.
Our media continues to be an ignorant, irresponsible flock of sheep, complicit in the systematic demolition of our democratic republic.
The son of a bitch is a murderer and they treat him like royalty. Cheney survives on blood lust. He should be in a jacket and shackles, not behind a podium.
Reply: You are so right to be upset about this most recent media failure. They are far too caught up in racking up winners and losers than they are in the real story. I find it absolutely disgusting as well. He’s a lying “sack of dog mess” just like Glenn Beck, a war criminal and a murderer.

Upon looking at the pic again, and please forgive me for being so shallow, aren’t they an absolutely stunning couple? Plus, they appear so at ease and comfortable with one another. It just looks genuine and I think that if it is as it seems, the Obamas set a splendid example. A successful relationship based on mutual attraction, respect and devotion to one another can and should enhance and exceed the sum of its parts.
It may be a grand illusion but if so, it’s one of the best I’ve ever witnessed and I find it inspiring.
Reply: That is exactly why I posted it. Some talk about family values and others just live it.

Did not know some of this information, Catherine. Excellent post. Seems to me the Republican Party doesn’t have anyone to turn to.
