Yet Another Shooting Resulting in 2 Dead

Binghampton Shooting gun

Yet another gun spree has resulted in two deaths and another five injured.  Among the dead and/or injured was a police officer and a 10 year  child who suffered a graze wound to the head.  This was allegedly prompted by some sort of “altercation” during a graduation party.  ”The suspect went to his car, got a gun and shot two people dead on the front lawn…Police were eventually able to persuade him to leave the house and give himself up,” according to CNN.

  1. It’s quite obvious, given the multitude of news stories on the subject, that way too many impulsive people have extremely quick access to their weapons. If we are really going to protect the rights of gun owners then we really need to figure out what is so popular about the trend of “you pissed me off, I’m going to just go grab my gun and shoot you” and find a way to thwart it. Every time something like this happens it chinks away at the rights of gun owners and eventually the public will cry to the government to put an end to it. So while some people are out there complaining that the government wants to take away their rights, it’s people like this idiot in the above story (and George Zinkhan, and Sheila Muhs, and Gayle Muhs, and Mark Fussner, and…well, you get my point) that are working hard to take away your rights, maybe it’s time for those honest, law abiding gun owners to offer up some ideas to work at a solution instead of harassing bloggers like Catherine.

I am not ready for a return to the wild west in America, I never liked looking at those grainy pics of dead outlaws tied to boards…

Reply: The gun nuts are in Phoenix getting new NRA propaganda to hurl at people who want some gun control. The NRA will energize them and give them lots of ideas on how to be ever more abusive.

  2. No impulse control mixed with anger issues, alcohol and a loaded weapon are never a good cocktail for any occasion.

Unless those who were shot had threatened this guy with a deadly weapon and he was “defending” himself, I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

Yeah, gun nuts. A bullet is the solution to all of your problems.

Exactly where in the second amendment does this case fall?

Reply: C’mon Doctor, this was a person who was arming himself for Glenn Beck’s revolution! He just took a little detour and wasted a few people. Oh and guns don’t kill, people do and all that NRA crap.

  3. Catherine, thanks for posting this one, I had missed it. If you don’t mind I’ll write about it myself right now.

One of my antagonists today wrote that the NRA has 4 million members while we anti-gun folks number only 150,000. I think there is too much apathy on our side of the argument and what some of us are trying to do on the internet is the answer – greater awareness.

My gun enthusiast friends often say they argue with me in case some fence-sitter might be lurking. But, I think the joke’s on them. Any reasonable fence-sitter with two brain cells would agree with us.

    Thanks for your great posting.
