A Time for Change

Things do not happen. Things are made to happen. – JFK

Change

They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. –  Andy Warhol

One moment in time can make a difference. There was an interesting movie a few years back, “Sliding Doors,” in which Gwyneth Paltrow plays Helen Quilley, a woman whose life changes in a split second when she is fired from her job.  As she tries to catch a train home, the film splits into two parallel universes running in tandem with each having very different consequences.

What would the consequences have been if Washington or Jefferson had not been founding fathers? If Lincoln had not been elected? If Adolph Hitler had become an artist instead of a dictator.  If John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King had not been assasinated?

Imagine that the United States has been running in a parallel universe since 2000.  George Bush lost the election. Our resources were properly used to hunt Bin Laden instead of starting a senseless war in  Iraq.  We had commenced reinvesting in public works with tax breaks for energy efficiency.  We lead the world in green energy efficiency and we are 8 years closer to ending our dependence on oil.  Imagine.

Change takes place over time, but can also take an irretrievable turn in a split second.

  1. Inspirational!

Just dropping by to say I observed your treatment over at Anthony ‘forty’ Watts place and was appalled if not surprised.

Nil desperandum and don’t judge these people too harshly, they have nailed their colours to a mast that crumbles to dust almost daily, which may explain the bitterness: history will judge the deniers harshly.
