Who am I to start a blog?
I am a 40-something lawyer from Florida who has seen her way through Reagan’s savings and loan crisis, Iran Contra, the US Supreme Court electing George Bush, the Elian Gonzalez nightmare, the “leadership” of Governor Jeb Bush a/k/a “baby” Bush, dead people voting, chads dangling and everyone in the nation making fun of this state because everything happens here. But wait, it usually does. World events always have a connection in Florida, kind of of like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon – think of an event and it usually leads back to us in Florida in one way or another.
As for my politcal bent, I have voted for Democrats and Republicans, depending on the person. The last election was a good example. I supported Hillary in the primaries and then thought I would vote for John McCain until I watched Sarah Palin’s speech at the RNC, which compelled me to google Barack Obama immediately.
Why am I here?
At some point along the way to longer hours and trying to acquire more things, we forget that what matters is having a laugh, spending time with our loved ones, helping someone in distress or even something as simple as refraining from gossip that is by its very nature malicious.
This blog is about those we care about, those we do not even know, those who make an impact and those who are invisible. It is about taking steps for the greater good even if that means an individual sacrifice. It is also about having a look at life with a little humor and irreverence because laughter is good for the soul.
Many measure success by the amount of money that we make, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear and how famous we are. I think that real success can only be determined by the people who have touched our lives and our influence on others’ lives. I have always believed that, but have not always lived it. It’s never too late to change…
It is the people in your life that really matter and maybe they are all that all that matter, right Marlowe?
